Beautifully Imperfect
This island has started its "Get Married' Campaign. This time, it is less about romance, more about reality. People are imperfect anyways, so let's get together and make babies.
I have long gotten used to the idea that people are imperfect. But to settle for an imperfect man required a bit of re-engineering, especially when all my life, I am dreaming of the perfect man for me. I don't need a perfect man. I just need one that is perfect for me. I don't know if I will ever find one. Or I will ever be a perfect woman for any man.
It is crazy. This marriage thing. And I am not talking about the campaign. It is the people around me. They belong to 2 distinctive clusters. The still happily ever after types and the been there done that types. Met a few happily married friends recently and they were just going on about how marriage was the best thing that ever happened to them. Woo, that's huge. To say that marriage was the best thing ever. I mean how was life before marriage? I thought me as a friend brought them happiness. Apparently not enough. And they have been married for less than 5 years. Then I have the pleasure of working with people who are married 5 years and more with no children. And they were thinking of other options in life. These 2 groups showed me the essence of both worlds.
I am by no mean a feminist. I mean I don't hate men. I just don't love them all the time. Neither am I an Indian woman who views marriage as a priority in life. Marriage is not a must. It is a bonus. If I find THE right man. The last thing I want is the government to tell me that this is ok to find an imperfect man to fuck up my life because afterall no one is perfect.
Yes, at some point in time, I want children. With or without a man. They don't even have to be my own blood. I would love to have my children share my life, my ups and my downs. Hello KiKi. These days, marriage is based on fear. Fear about not having someone there when you get old. Fear about being alone in life. Fear about not being able to find someone as nice as the person you are marrying. Fear about losing a person. I hope that one day when I do get married, it is because I love the person enough to take away all my insecurities.
